La Habana
Built in the studio by the three of us, Sandoval, El Dragón and me, experimenting with sounds. We wanted salsa, something tropical; then I had the idea of a reggaeton opening and a pop chorus, and it became a jigsaw puzzle of rap, reggaeton, pop and salsa. It’s probably the most experimental track on the album. I was thinking of my first trip to Havana with my dad, and of a girl I met there, the daughter of an important Cuban academic: the first time I walked a city’s streets with someone, and the fantasy of a summer love. The song also plays with my last name and that of one of Cuba’s greatest writers, José Lezama Lima. It’s nostalgia for the eternal bond between Cuba and Mexico, a love story that outlasts any politics.
